UNLOCK was the solution, thanks for the reminder about 2 parameters, though, made me read Hackers Guide again, and , luckily for me,

set refresh to 1 compiles as set refresh to 1,1 ( the first parameter controls the second! )

Still don't understand why UNLOCK works and FLUSH doesn't !
