You might ask to talk to some of their other hires and some clients. They might not want you talking to their clients, but if they don't want you talking to their hires, I'd be concerned.

Well, what's "fair" is what's they're willing to pay. Does the 12mos "guarantee" guarantee you get paid 40hrs/week, or do you only get paid for hours they can bill? If that's the case, the 12 month guarante is worthless. If they don't like you they'll simply stop hiring you out.

And if they're hiring you for a specific contract, you might be able to find out who the contract is with.

And is the contract exclusive? Can you work on the side for others? If you're looking to go independent than you'll want to be able to start working on other projects before the 12 months is over.
