If SET BLOCKSIZE TO 0 is in effect when the table is created the dbf stores the direct byte offset into the fpt so it's definately limited to 2gig.
I'm not sure that even a blocked memo can exceed the 2gig limit. This notebook doesn't have that much free space so I can't test it tonight.

There are two possibilities: It's the pointer to the memo block (the block number if you will); or it's the offset of the block into the memo file. I've always thought it was the latter. However, I did a silly thing and didn't RTFM before I posted the previous.< g > It's the block number, "The table file contains block numbers that are used to reference the memo blocks" (from the docs).:-)
