Can you have a numeric only GUID?

Does this make any sense?

I use the ORACLE function sys_guid but it returns a character expression
which cannot be converted to a number...

I've also seen the GUID function posted here but I need it in an Oracle Stored Procedure...
I can't use a sequence at this point.
