I've done some translations from several flavors of Cobol. Which Cobol,
which OS, any info on table structure? If it uses EBCDIC instead of
ASCII, you may have to revert to the other solution. The cobol routine
need not be much complicated - simply reads the old file, and copies the
records into a sequential file, with all the comp-x numerics converted
to simple picture numerics, the preferred type being Line Sequential,
which means the records have a regular cr+lf at the end.
If this is not feasible, well, e-mail me a sample with a few dozen
records (zipped if possible) and I'll see what I can do.
