>>I have the same comment for "Hacker's Guide to Visual FoxPro 6.0". The 3.0 version is excellent. We're looking to move up at my company, so I perused the preview pages from Hentzen. Except for 1 or 2 line changes in SOME of the examples, and the addition of only those things specific to v6.0, the book is IDENTICAL to v3.0.

>As its technical editor, I can state for a certainty that The Hacker's Guide to Visual FoxPro 6.0 is far from identical to the 3.0 version. Certainly, those things in VFP 6.0 that didn't change from 3.0 didn't have many changes in the text (in some cases, there were new examples and better explanations). However, given that a lot of new language elements and tools were added between 3.0 and 6.0, there was a lot of new material added to the 6.0 book. Also, as others have pointed out, its availability in CHM format is actually way more useful than as a physical book.

Thanks for the update Doug,
Based on the posted comments, I take it that the primary reason for buying the new book for $69 is strictly the CHM? Perhaps if the posted preview files were of the new sections? The preview pages showed me nothing I don't already have in the V3.0 book and could update by buying another book at a lesser price.
Please don't get me wrong, I love the V3.0 version. I'm sure that if I had the money, I would love the v6.0 as much or more. The question is; Already having v3.0, is it better to buy v6.0as primary VFP6 book or to stay with v3.0 and buy another, cheaper book to pick up new language elements?
Please don't hurt me. I'm only ignorant, hopefully not stupid.
Pete
