I see mark has answered already but I'll add my comments.

>I want to upsize a vfp60 database (using the upsize wizard from vfp) to Oracle 8i. Should I create a separate tablespace for the aplication data.? Is it a good idea?

Yes I always also build a new tablespace for each app (maybe more than one in cases.) I also build a separate index tablespace. If you do heavy sorting you may want a separate temp tablespace. It is also nice if you have the ability to place the tablespace on a dedicated disk. On a one disk system you wont get much performance increase but if you have several disks or arrays this is how you get good performance.

>I think that is a good idea to separate the application data into a new tablespace. Good for organizational purposes and also for backup purposes.

Good for organization, space optimization and disk access speed (if setup properly) Doesn't really help much for backup you don't normally backup a single tablespace (not sure if it can be done..)
