Hey George, if the ligtning strike wasn't too intense it probably just took out the line drivers on the port (usally just behind the connector). If they used a IC chip and soketed it, you can probably go to Radio Shack and replace it for a couple of bucks. It may be soldered in, but easy to take out. If it's old enough, it will have individual componets for each line and that's a bit more of a hassle.

Just a suggestion.
