>>Do not eat salted green soy beans. They suck.

>Back in my younger days I used to eat a lot of familia. We'd make it ourselves from raw grains, dried fruit and such. One day a roommate made a batch with dried (uncooked) soy beans. I 'bout broke a tooth trying to eat the stuff and not sure what I could say without insulting her. Finally I decided that her feelings were less expensive than major dental reconstruction.

>As for getting your alotment of protein - check out two books: "Diet for a Small Planet" and "Recipes for a Small Planet". They base things on the theory of protein compliments. Basically they match foods that have complimentary amino acids that, when combined in your digestive tract will combine to make complete proteins. For instance, if you eat peanut butter and raisins together you'll get almost twice as much protein as eating them separately.

Interesting how Rice and Beans are a complete protien. How did people know such things years ago? In Cuba - this is the basic diet.

Just saw a PBS show on Tofu. They even have Tofu Ice Cream. People said it tasted good. So you can get your protien with desert!
