Basically, what I need is the ability for a robot application to send a phone call in case something goes wrong with a server. So, a robot application might run as long as the ability to read a DBF on a specific server is working. If not, a phone call would be initiated to a specific local number and send some garbage. At least, I would know by answering the call that this is coming from my application or just by looking at the displayed number.

I think I might be better to just plug a line over there and send the data from a modem.
