So, a robot application might run as long as the ability to read a DBF on a specific server is working. If not, a phone call would be initiated to a specific local number and send some garbage. At least, I would know by answering the call that this is coming from my application or just by looking at the displayed number.

Michel

We just finished a meeting with a group from Digi. One of the things discussed was hooking one of their boxes to a server that would notify you the server is down. You could then reboot remotely and do some diagnostics from home without having to go on site.

Try www.digi.com I have an 800 number if that helps - also have a name if needed.
