I use a modal form to edit a row (user double clicks to open an editing form), but to add and delete, I have two buttons sitting next to the grid.

Also, I don't bind the list to the array. I use list functions to scan the array (populated by a query or whatever else) and populate the list.

I'm not saying this is the best way to do this, but I feel like it is, and I'm never going back to binding tables directly to grids again except for the most simple applictions.
