not specifically helping your situation but. Hard drives are very cheap. You should be able to pick up 15 Gbytes for under 100 dollars. I recently bought a Western digital 15Gbyte drive in the Uk for approx 75 pounds.
Its given my "very old" PC an extra year or so of development and saves me a lot of time in shuffling things around to try and make them fit.

The amount of space you describe as having free certainly sounds like you should get some extra space.

A little extra memory on the same purchase also helped.
