As Sergey says, it sure looks like your SWAP file is the "culprit".

Have you emptied your Recycle Bin? That is my "reserve" and I can always get more space when I need it by doing so. I also recollect, when space got that tight for me, adjusting the recycle bin properties to use only minimal space to hold deleted files (now I have 40 gig and it is a huge reserve for me). I don't remember if this was possible in Win95 though.

You didn't say how much RAM you have. I mention this only because if it is quite small (128meg or less) then it looks like there is a good chance that you are actually USING the SWAP file (with so many apps. open simultaneously). IF so then you no doubt get some slow downs while operating (if you have a noisy HD you'll hear it when you feel there shouldn't be disk activity going on).
In that case, IF THE MACHINE TAKE THE KIND OF RAM NOW CHEAPLY AVAILABLE, more RAM will undoubtedly help. RAM is so cheap now (the 'right' kind) that virtually anyone can afford another 256meg (less than $50.) and 128meg is even cheaper. It will make a huge speed difference *if* you are now swapping regularly.

good luck,

JimN
