Curtis,

>>Rush Limbaugh was angling for the job but got beat out by Mr. Miller.

>I think that Dennis Miller was a big football fan.

Perhaps.. I got the impression that he didn't know that much about football. Kind of like me. <g>

>I wouldn't call it fear nearly as much as the absolute knowledge that Limbaugh would definitely pi** off a lot of people and end up with a negative backlash they would see out of for a long time.

Nahh.. What most folks don't know is that Rush is very knowledgeable about football. My guess is that he'd bring more than they's lose. I think the network doesn't have the guts. He's professional enough to keep his comments on football.

>No, I don't think any sane person would consider Limbaugh for the job for more than, say, 10 seconds.

Nice inflammatory statement... <g> You just opened the door so don't gripe at my response, ok? <g> I'm just responding..

Based on what? That he has opinions? <g> So, anyone who agrees with Rush is insane then? <g> I think that those who actually think that just don't understand Rush or what he stands for - or are just plain mean and intolerant and perhaps bigoted because they have judged him without knowledge. What I've observed after listening to Rush since, oh.. around 1988 when he was on one station in Sacramento (yes I go back that far <g>) is that he combines a mix of outrageousness with facts that allow him to posit his conservative point of views. I hardly see that as 'insane'... <g> More like those who don't understand him are irrationally angry with him. Why?

Nahh.. I think it's because liberals are jealous that Rush has twenty million + listeners and liberals can't even keep a host on air for more than a few months before they tank. I've noticed that the people who dislike (dare I say 'hate'?) Rush more often than not simply misunderstand him and cannot accurately represent what he stands for.

Look... You cannot argue with success and last week or so Rush signed a renewal of his contract that will ostensibly net him over 250 million dollars between now and 2009. Not bad for someone who's under the scrutiny of some 40 million ears. <g>

Remember, at the end of the day, for radio hosts like Rush and television viewers of programs like Monday Night Football, it is all about numbers of listeners/viewers. And, nothing else really. I'd bet that if Rush were to bring several millions of his radio listeners to MNF that ABC would like that. <g>

That is, unless ABC were to cave like the producers of Dr. Laura in the face of militant homsexuals who demonstrated sheer hatred and got away with it. Where were all those who usually whine about freedom of speech and tolerance of different opinions? Oh, yeah.. Double standards and sheer hypocrisy are ok when certain positions are held. Sorry, I don't buy it. If I have to accept people who disagree with me I'd think that they should accept me in return. The reason people don't like Rush is that he is a success in spite of all their efforts. IOW, they cannot control him and the content he provides. Do you remember the legislation that the Democrats tried to get through Congress a few years back called the "Hush Rush" bill? It went down in flames (as it should have) but it will be back because liberals are intolerant of views other than their own, not conservatives.

The fact here Curtis is that people do not want to accept truth and will twist it until they think they've made it go away. Sad... And then we wonder why our culture is disintigrating.

No.. I think Rush would be a breath of fresh air and would at least get people interested and bring audience - again, what it's all about - RATINGS
Best,
