>>No.. I think Rush would be a breath of fresh air and would at least get people interested and bring audience - again, what it's all about - RATINGS

>If this is true then there can be no possible reason why the network didn't hire Limbaugh. If it's all about ratings and Limbaugh would do a better job of bringing people in, then they would have hired him.

Well, sure, but the folks at ABC also have (and this is where I think I'd fault them) what I'd think is an over-sensitivity to being 'politically correct'. I think in the long run guys like Limbaugh can, by the sheer force of their 'presence' gain some significant inroads. That they have to work so hard to so do - in spite of the overwhelming evidence that they can bring a huge audience - only reinforces the notion that there is a sort of agenda.

>So, either it's not all about ratings or they felt he would not have brought people in. No tellin'.

True enough. I just think it would be fun to watch all the so-called 'tolerant' liberals gnash their ever-so-tolerant teeth. <g>

>Personally, I think that Limbaugh would have added more conservative radio talk show listeners who are not big football fans. That's probably about 10 people across the country. Meanwhile, they would have lost football fans in the slightly conservative to liberal range - so that's a lot more. Plus sports bars with customers who are offended by Limbaugh - so that's about all of them.

Well, I'd agree that he'd add the typical non-football fan. I'd watch just for the fun of seeing the others grimace. <g> Again, after listening to him yak about football it's pretty evident he knows his stuff. I think he'd add to the football-related content and that the current viewers would enjoy his on-screen persona.

>By the way, this is not an argument about whether or not I agree with Limbaugh. That's a moot point. It's an argument about his impact on the TV watching public in general. You may like him, but that won't bring in 40 million watchers. Personally, I get no thrill from watching guys crack skulls with each other, so I don't care who's calling the game.

Sure.. Remember, when he had his TV show, which was often relegated to the 11:00PM - 2:00am slot he was often still #1 or #2 in that area. Pretty impressive ratings. He quit because he came to the conclusion he liked radio more not because his ratings were bad.

>I also think that it's an indisputable speculation, that Limbaugh would alienate more viewers than he would draw in.

Well, I know one way to find out... <g> Let's just see if ABC has the cajones...
