Qwest DSL is not available in my area. I'm rather surprised at this as SLC is one of the top ten "wired" cities in the country and leads the nation in the percentage of homes with two to more computers.

I'm using AT&T @Home. When it works, it works great. However, when it doesn't work, calling customer non-service is not an option, as they can't help. I would gladly switch to DSL if I could.

Here's a typical exchange that I have with their customer non-service:

Me: "I can't connect to the interent"
Them: "What are the lights doing on your cable modem"
Me: "They're flashing, indicating that it doesn't have a connection to your network. I do a trace route and I don't get a response from the gateway"
Them: "Have you tried rebooting your computer?"
Me: "What does that have to do with anything. My computer isn't the problem.
Them: "Just our standard troubleshooting procedures"
Me: (thinking): Yes, for people that don't understand networking
Me: (lieing to them): "Yes, I've rebooted my computer and the cable modem."
Them: "Sounds like we need to schedule a service call. THe first time we have available is a week from now"

I think you get the idea.

>Sticking up for QWest. I've had their DSL since last December and I think they've been just the greatest. There've been a couple of hiccups, but they've always gotten it taken care, have been unfailingly helpful from the lowliest tech to the most senior person. And available 24 hours a day. I occassionaly have met a long hold time, but usually can call back after a while and more than often then not get an actual person within a minute or so.
