I am looking to implement a feature to an application, where the user has the option on all forms to attach-/ (VFP terms relate) various types of other files - or documents.
I already have the plumbing done to enable the functionality, what I am asking for is an UI which makes sense to users.
Should I make the forms themselves OLE drop targets, where the user would drop a file onto the form.... and write the code necessary to enable the saving of the file ? The trouble I see with this, is that many users don't know how to even use drag and drop. I get more often than not. 'Oh I didnt know you could do that. ?' and a day later, they forget that it could be done.
My first thought was be to have a folder named Dropbox on the users desktop, to allow them someplace to drop files / or copy files to. then whenever they navigate to a form, if any files are in the dropbox, a control (listbox) or command button would become enabled. to allow them to -attach the dropped file to the current viewing record.
Maybe design some area using a shape to be used a a drop- area for files to be dropped onto each form.
As you can tell, I am running short on ideas today, Knowing that at least someone has done this sucessfully, I am looking for any suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

In the beginning, there was a command prompt, and all was well.
