VSS just makes project loading crawl. VFP and VSS do not relate to each other very efficiently.

Our main application contains well over 1000 classes, program libraries and other objects, so you can imagine how long this project takes to open.

The solution is never open it. Create the master project and link it to VSS located on a network drive, then do all you work in a local project that contains just the items you are actually working with. Check these in and out of VSS through VSS, not through the VFP project. Any amendedment to the master project is handled by a designated VSS administrator.

Checking in and out through VSS is also safer. We had many experiences with missing and corrupted .vct's when we were checking in and out through the VFP project. Now that we do all the checking in and out through VSS, these problems have gone away.
