>I seem to recall that the Corvair was an attempt to make a car that had the same kind of drivetrain that the VW Beetle did. I don't recall the actual name but the two rear wheels would 'fold' inward and for off-road vehicles this is a real benefit as it helps to keep from getting stuck in the sand. They were wildly popular about the time the Corvair was introduced...
It was a rear-engine car; you could be right about the wheels.
I just seem to remember that people who owned one didn't have a problem with it; only Nader.
His "Unsafe at any Speed" seemed to elude it had trouble holding the road; the simple fact is all rear-drives handle differently. I knew a fellow that lost the read-end of his Porsche against the curb because he failed to respect it; I think the same could have been said for the Corvair.
(Saw a very nice red one the other day).
