>>It's too valuable a tool for it to be optional. I see questions around here all the time (and I'm sure that you do too) about running a batch (.BAT) file from within Windows. That's what the WSH is, batch files for Windows, only they're batch files on steriods.:-) I use one as an application launcher. It checks the network drive to see if a new version of the application exists and/or if there needs to be a new install (SP, version change, etc.). Does all the dirty work for me (and the user).

>I haven't gotten into using WSH, but it sounds useful. I needed to do something in a batch file once at home and asked my husband (also a CS person) if he knew how. He didn't, so I said I would try and find out if it can be done in WSH. He looked shocked that I was dumb enough not to have disabled that already. Sigh. I just can't see turning off a perfectly useful feature just because some people don't have the sense not to open attachements. Especially since I'm the only one using the computer and I _do_ have sense. :)

And that's precisely my point and my approach. Now about the WSH...

SET SHAMELESSSELFPROMOTION ON

If you want to learn more about the WSH from a VFP perspective, and you haven't read the series that Ed Rauh and I wrote on the VFUG site, I'd recommend that as a starting point. The series began last September, and I recently wrote a post-script article on it.

SET SHAMELESSSELFPROMOTION OFF

If you're interested in learning to use VBScript, I'd recommend The Windows Script Host Programmers Reference by Dino Esposito from Wrox. It's not a tutorial on VBScript, however. There are other books that deal with that. Syntactically, it's not terribly different from VFP, you just have to get used to certain things, and, IMO, any competent VFP programmer can pick it up rather easily.

>>You won't have any problems under Win2K with versions of VFP above 5.0. Win95 is another story.

>I haven't used 95 in ages. I like W2k much better. I have Win 98SE at home and I'm considering upgrading, but can't decide if I want to go to Win2k or XP. Probably Win2k because of problems with XP, but I'll wait and see if they get resolved first.

I've got Win98SE at home and I've held off upgrading (it also serves as a game machine for my sons). I'll probably move either to Me or XP Home Edition (when it's released).
