I find VSS & VFP a very good combination. I even have a local VSS where I do versioning for my changes aside from the networked VSS which shared by all programmers.

Aside from the annoying fact that you'll have to check-out three files; this should be a good thing. A form (SCX) will not open properly if the corresponding SCT file is damaged.

However is there anywhere I can change the setting of a particular file so that once it has been checked out once in a particular dir then that becomes its default ?

VSS usually remembers the file location if the project was added to VSS by using the option in VFP under Project->Add to Source Control.

Another cause of this would be if you have linked files. VSS tends to save the local copy at the location of the real owner of the file.
