MSDE is what it is, just desktop engine. You can use EM or/and QA with MSDE if you have appropriate license, for example MS SQL Developer edition.
There's also two parts article 'Managing SQL Server/MSDE from VFP' in July 2001 and September 2001 issues of FaxTalk Magazine.

I see MSDE as a good desktop tool to get SQL code to be proficiently written for potential migration, but, I don't see something like Enterprise Mgr or other tools that seem to come with SQL-Server. MSDN seems to indicate that to create a MSDE, create it via Access or SQL-Server and upsize or downsize into MSDE. Seems ridiculous to have to create and maintain a database elsewhere and then have to migrate it into MSDE.
