Shouldn't affect regular users. The only problem that I have experienced is when I changed permissions to the account that runs SQL Server. Whenever you install it it asks under which account should the SQL Server service run. The default is the system account, and if this is your development PC then that should be OK.
If you changed it to your account and password, maybe that is the problem. You can change this back to the system account or some account for which the password does not expire by going to the services and selecting "Properties" for the MSSQLServer service.
