Well I finally got to see it. Station here shows it at 12:05 AM on Sunday morning. So I taped it and watched it Sunday afternoon. My thoughts are:

Did it hit a home run? No but it is rounding second and heading for third.

Did I like it totally? No. I think the shower scene and the talk of three breasted aliens were not needed. The language was OK to me as I would think early on the Starfleet people were going to be rough around the edges. The action and special effects were excellent. The occasional infusion of funny lines was great. I also like the fact that they make mistakes with new technology (running into the ship with the space shuttle), it makes it more believable.

Bottom line is that I think the feeling of starting out in space exploration was exciting and conveyed really well. I was very excited also about seeing that first ship get out of space port and on its way, which is what they were really trying to get across.
