See VFP system requirements page in the help.

Did you tried "PACK" command over your table? This command not only remove records marked for deletion, but also allows to pach the FPT file content by removing gaps (unused space) in it. There is and option "MEMO" that allows you to run PACK without touching of records marked for deletion )if you use them in production).
