>Hello everyone,
>Our company just got a new computer and I installed a Visual Basic program that the programmer before me created. I ran the package and installed all the necessary files like the Microsoft Data Access components (ver. 2.5) and DCOM and yet when I try to run the executable it takes quite a while to open (17 seconds to be exact). I am thinking it is a problem with the ODBC connection and I tried the "Test Connection" option with the .udl file and it was very slow to complete. On all the other computers the executable opens very quickly (about 2 seconds). What is it that I would need to instll, download, or run on this computer to make the connection fast? When I open a Microsoft Access database .mdb file it is also slow to open. If I open a copy of that database on the local drive it opens instantaneously. Can anyone help me with this problem? I've checked everything that I could think of, like making sure the odbc file dsn is there.

Max,

Is this computer on the same location as the others? It could be a network card problem, if you are saying it's new and the setup is the same as in other computers.

So are you using a UDL or a file DSN? I would try using a DSN-less connection if you're going through ODBC, but that needs to be hard-coded in the executable.
