Alex,

>You are obviously aware that Ken deals with this sort of situation, you also know exactly what information he needs in order to help you, and I would like to think that you do know how to reach him directly.

Ken has been contacted with information so that he can be told which MS reps gave out the mis-information and so that he can perhaps give some reassurance to my managers about VFP's future (if he has the time and would be gracious enough to do so).

>Now, what is the point of posting the message you posted?

As I have said in the original message and in numerous replies, I simply want my company to make a well-informed decision on tools. I don't care which way we go, as long as we have done due diligence on what tools/vendors/platforms provide sound footing for the future. I am not here to debate how well the future can even be considered, etc.

I am not out of answers. When I said at the meeting that I didn't quite believe VFP 8.0 was the final version, my managers were very open and asked if they could be given information to the contrary. I was seeking such information when I posted here. As I stated, I have seen plenty of rumors, but hadn't personally experienced a Microsoft representative flat-out stating that version was absolutely the last one. This level of mis-information floored me, so I posted to make sure my head was still on straight.

>- You're trying to see who in the UT is in which camp ("vfp's dying, let's move on" or "vfp's alive, let's kick ass")?

Nope...I couldn't care less about such things.

>- You're tired of reading the pointless debate between Jerry, Doug, and Len about whether to nuke the terrorists or not.

Nope...wasn't even keeping up with that one...

>To you or anyone else in the same boat, it is POINTLESS for us to debate on this issue. Microsoft knows too well where we stand.

I was not trying to start a debate...please, read my original post. I state very clearly that I just wanted some information, hopefully from an authoritative source, to combat what my managers had been told. I didn't wish to discuss any of the following:

- whether or not our analysis methodology is good (as someone questioned)
- whether or not my managers are "idiots" (as someone replied)
- whether or not I am frustrated with the process (I wish to have nothing to do with camps, sides, zealotry, etc.)

>If you're afraid that vfp8 might be the last version AND that that might affect your near future, then, by all means, start learning a new tool.

I am not afraid of anything. I am merely trying to help my company make a well-informed decision. That's my job.

>For the record, I still maintain several clipper applications (yeah, as in "DOS" applications) and it's been about 8 years since both DOS and Clipper supposedly died.

Good for you.

>PS: if they want something that will last 3-5 years for sure, there's always assembler.

I will take that under consideration.
