>Not all that the Bible says should be taken literally or is even good. It says "Don't steal". That's good. It also says to kill your children if they misbehave. That's not good. It is considered murder in most countries, even though the Bible says it's Ok. Curious, isn't it?
>(if in doubt see: Deuteronomy 21:20-21 / Mark 7:10 / Exodus 21:15 / Exodus 21:17)

>>Well I suppose from that aspect of the discussion. You do understand that the English translation of the word 'agnostic'' is pretty close to 'ignoramous' don't you? <g> a-gnosko = no knowledge

>You've said that before. It simply means that an agnostic cannot prove the existance or non-existance of God. One way or another. I'm an agnostic as I cannot prove it and neither can you.

Alex;

We tend to interpret things on a level, which we understand and can relate to using “the tools of today”. This includes but is not limited to the meaning of words, phrases, laws, and events. An example of this is that in the United States it was not a violation of the law for a parent to kill his or her child until 1895. The first law to go on the books to this effect was created in New York City.

Now could we argue that this is a violation of separation of Church and State? I take your reference of: Deuteronomy 21:20-21 / Mark 7:10 / Exodus 21:15 / Exodus 21:17, and conclude that New York City enacted a law which violates this principle. We should let the ACLU take up this matter and return to a proper perspective of relations between parent and child as defined in the Bible. The State has no right to interfere with such matters.

I am not advocating killing your children but rather looking at this from a legal basis. Trying to be consistent in this matter is not acceptable I would think. We as a nation are not consistent in our application of our laws.

Many stories found in the Bible are also found in literature of other nations, some dating back 6000 years. The Bible has been called many things including "The Word of The Lord", and a book of morals.
