Your message has confused me slightly
You say that the system is client server? is that VFP as both client and server?
What's the accounting system? (Not Pegasus by any chance?)

Then you go on to say that the machines are running a local exe or an exe on the server.. this is not client server... client server just gets the required data from a more intelligent server.

IF you are having more general performance issues.. then the first thing to try is to (temporarily) disable virus scanning on the server.

I think I will need a little more information before I can be any more help.
