>Steven Black has cited two Wiki pages discussing the issue at hand. You are free to correct or rebut the content in those pages if you are so certain you are correct. I wish you would do so if you are so certain you are correct.

I know I am free to do so, I simply choose not to. This forum is replete with better discussions IMO. The issue was whether the initiator of the thread had received bad advice. IMO, he did not. In fact, Nick had already cited those two wiki topics. IMO, Steve went out of his way to to take a personal shot. That is my opinion, and I am entitled to it and to respond in kind.

>I recommend that all parties read the cited Wiki pages where those with experience and viewpoints have gone to some trouble to cover all the issues rather than a sensational few.

I agree, and will take it a step further; people should avail themselves to any information they can find.

>FWIW, I choose to use Remote Views in many cases. I have carefully considered the arguments and am perfectly willing to explain my position without invective or slogans- indeed I have done my best to contribute to the Wiki pages detailed by Mr Black. Of course I do not "always" use RVs, same as I do not insist on driving on the wrong side of the road in Europe. A bit of flexibility works wonders, I find.

My intention is not to get into a flame war about RV's vs. SPT/SP. I have argued that point several times. IMO, the arguments I put forth for SPT are steep ones for RV to overcome. Many of them are impossible to overcome. Then again, if issues like security, scalability, exception handling, data/program independence, maintanenance. etc are not concerns, I suppose one could find a way to make RV's acceptable. As I said in my other posts, I have found situations where RV's have worked. However, that is the exception and it was usually a result of a lot of extra effort on the part of developers.

It is important to note that developers that use RV's leave a lot on the table. It can work, but nonetheless, it is far from optimal. Using a lot of public variables, putting all of the business logic in VB code in ASP script can "work", but a lot of advantages are left on the table; leaving those practices outside the realm of best.

This, like all other areas, is a place left without personal shots by people that have a perpetual chip on their shoulder. When somebody does that and it gets directed to me and especially when the technical merits of something are disputed, I have and shall continue to respond in kind...

As for why you use RV's, you should offer those arguments up here. Remember, the originator of this thread needs arguments on the side of using SPT. Having aguments for the other side would help his case.
