Fighting with that for thirty years. Actually only about 30% of the jokes are transferrable, even if 80% are translatable. It's just that different cultures laugh at different things. Sometimes it works, sometimes it takes hard brainwork to transfer, and sometimes you just get disappointed when the point doesn't get through.
BTW, I've heard that the movie version of "Tomb Raider" was cut down by some 20 minutes, mostly leaving out the sequences loaded with British humo
