Just have to ask...Did you move there due to the proximity of the pub? If I wanted to walk somewhere and have a few, I'd have to drink saki or Asahi.

I had a very bad experience with dark beer in college and have mostly stayed away from it since. But I did have a Guinness last year. I walked into a pub not too far away to get something to eat. The Guinness reps were there to lead everyone in a toast. Seems every year they send reps to as many pubs as possible at the same time to try and get more people to toast, then get an entry in Guinness book.
