John -- in this case, I can see that RVs give you a certain advantage. But, keep in mind that not everyone operates this way. Not every app modification is done in front of the customer.... Changing a grid column order for non-RVs is simply NOT that complicated.

In other words, I think that the purpose and scope of an application is a crucial factor in the RV/SPT decision. This seems a very important point - they each have their place. Many UT posts assume that all of us run our business (or department, or consulting business) the same way -- we don't. (This is a general criticism, not aimed specifically at your post.)
