>>Many UT posts assume that all of us run our business (or department, or consulting business) the same way -- we don't<<

In posting the example you quote, I am not saying that everybody works this way, I am mooting examples where RVs may have a place. My next step is to grow the example into a multi-backend scenario.

Why? Because intellectual curiosity requires a response to the absolute insistence made by a certain person that RVs are no good- "dumb down" and "po dunk application" are some of the pejoratives that spring to mind, along with ongoing triumphant ad-hominam slurs.

Of course we all do things differently, that is why I see it as inappropriate for a party to insist that their way, and only their way, is always correct.

I agree, this has gone long enough. I think there is enough information on the Wiki for people to make up their own minds.

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
