Kevin,
We generate letters by using Word via one of the following two methods:
1. Word automation (see
www.hetzenwerke.com for great book on Office Automation)
2. Designing a letter template in Word where all fields are marked up using a <
> or <> syntax, saving the Word document in an RTF format, and then using VFP's text merge capabities to expand the embedded << ... >>'s in the RTF file.
We do not use the VFP report writer for letters.
Good luck!
Malcolm
>I am creating letters in a vfp system that my client mails to their clients. There are MANY variable length fields in these letters (some character, some numeric, some bold, some not, etc.) that are driving me crazy trying to make the reports look professional. While I don't have a specific question, any articles, web sites, ideas about this would be greatly appreciated. The biggest problem is the white space in a letter when a field has little data in it, but I have to leave the field wide enough to accomodate for the possibility of larger data in the field. It's been a long time since I've done letters using vfp's report writer, so naturally I feel like a moron!
