Do you have any more suggestions? I agree with what you're saying but I'd rather not break up the detail band if I don't have to. It seems like a bug in vfp.

One idea:
If I double click on the detail band and get the detail height dialog box,
there's a spot where I can run an expression on entry before the detail band height gets evaluated. Have you ever done this? Do you know what the expression would be?
