Get the freeware from www.adaware.de. There is one program to check for spyware on the computer, another where you can search programs by name before downloading and installing a freeware download, which may, or may not, be spyware.

See also the excellent discussion of spyware at http://grc.com/downloaders.htm.

Saludos, Hilmar.

Now, many of them can be perfectly legitimate parts of FrontPage, IIS, SQL Server, Norton Antivirus, or parts of Windows, etc, but the point is I don't know and of course that is very suspicious behavior. Many of them reside in the Windows or System directories so there is no hint as to where they come from.

Difference in opinions hath cost many millions of lives: for instance, whether flesh be bread, or bread be flesh; whether whistling be a vice or a virtue; whether it be better to kiss a post, or throw it into the fire... (from Gulliver's Travels)
