I thought you all would be interested in my email conversation with
InstallShield. The text below explains my position and their position.
Reasonable people do sometimes disagree.

Hello Andy. Thank you for writing. I wish to be clear with my position
please.

I do not care for being helped once and not again with a serial number to
add a published patch. I did call and asked for help and was told that I
would have to invest $350.00
and I was not eligible for upgrade pricing. Further, I was told that the
copy of InstallShield that came with VFP 7 was an evaluation version.

I upgraded to WIN XP PRO only to find that InstallShield runs, but will not
perform the distribution test. Nor will the distribution install on a WIN XP
machine. VFP 7 came out
before WIN XP as did the InstallShield Express Limited Edition with VFP 7.
Now it refuses to install on a WIN XP installation and I'm asked to spend
$350.00. Paying $350.00 for the privilege of being able to use 7 more
features out of 22 usable features is wrong, especially when that is what it
costs for the full version. In my attitude, I find the
practice of forcing a $350.00 investment bait and switch and unethical. No
where was there advertising that the copy of InstallShield that came with
VFP 7 was an evaluation copy. I very much apologize for my upfront words and
depiction of my attitude toward this issue but, at the very least, there
should be an upgrade pricing path for the 7 extra features.

I do understand policies and I do understand your company's position. I just
very much disagree.

Best regards,

Joe Goldsmith

Subject: RE: Need InstallShield Serial number

Hello Joe,

Laura Polido asked if I would contact you regarding your recent emails
requesting a serial Number for the InstallShield packaged with Visual
FoxPro. I wanted to call you to discuss this, however, there were no phone
numbers in your email, and I was unable to find you in our database of
Register Users.

Joe, as Laura stated, the "limited version" of InstallShield packaged with
Visual FoxPro is not a full version of InstallShield. It is not eligible
for Technical Support or for upgrade. The differences between the Limited
Edition and the full version of InstallShield Express can be found at
http://www.installshield.com/express/visualfoxpro/. I'm not
sure what Serial Number you refer to when you stated you received a Serial
Number from InstallShield.

If you would like to pursue purchasing a full version of InstallShield
Express please contact me at any of the numbers listed below. If you have
purchased a full version of InstallShield Express, and I've misunderstood
your request, I apologize. With the full, purchased version, you should
have a Serial Number and I want to assist in determining
that number. In either case, feel free to contact me and let's discuss what
options are
available.

Thanks again for your interest in InstallShield products.

Andy
