About 7-8 years ago when I was an employee and not a consultant, I filed a couple complaints to legally force my employer to change the GUI of two applications that I couldn't read because of the color scheme and the font size used. I won both cases. My employer fired me soon thereafter claiming I was not a "good team player". I sued them again and we ended up settling out of court.

Developers think they know better than users?. IMO, the problem on this forum is that too many developers believe that the Windows color scheme is the only scheme in town. It sometimes makes sense to provide visual clues to bring special attention to a control's value. If I use color as the visual clue, I provide a "Color Management form" where the user can pick any color scheme he wants for the special elements. I never received a complaint other than the user's manual not describing the feature in enough details.
