How about using VFP? I mean, keep the directory names in a table, add whichever fields would make sense, add another table with names of the files in each directory, and do a little SQL to find what you need. You could include any number of keywords for each directory or file entry, and that would be, IMO, faster than anything else, and you would have the pleasure of having a search engine far better than Windows Search utility.
