Mike,
>>At some point even though these users may well be able to point to My Documents as the sole repository of their files they might then have a lot of trouble finding the exact right one as a direct result of the sheer numbers of files. That's really the issue I'm getting at is all.

>I understand your concern, but I think with todays software and todays hardware its a non issue. What OS do you use? On Windows 2000, my system directory loads in about a second and a hald, and there are 1800 files in there. I think most of that is loading all the different icons. On XP, it loads the directory, and THEN the icons if it ends up being that slow. So, I don't think there's an issue there, and all is right with the computing world (hey, I'm optimistic today, its Friday afterall ;-).
Well, I use W2K for the most part. Still, that's not the issue IMO and I think you're kind of 'stuck' on what you and I use, not what our users will be using. What O/S do our users use is the question I have. They may still be using W95 for example. Using My Documents would work for them but again, if they have the kind of job or work where they generate a lot of documents it can get really brutal in short order.
Please don't misunderstand... I still like the basic notion of using My Documents. I just do not thnk that it's the perfect solution. It's good and has a lot of merit but there are reasons IMO to modify its use.
As far as being optimistic on Fridays goes... just pretend every day is Friday. <g>
Best,
DD
