I understand your concern, but I think with todays software and todays hardware its a non issue. What OS do you use? On Windows 2000, my system directory loads in about a second and a hald, and there are 1800 files in there. I think most of that is loading all the different icons. On XP, it loads the directory, and THEN the icons if it ends up being that slow. So, I don't think there's an issue there, and all is right with the computing world (hey, I'm optimistic today, its Friday afterall ;-).
