Do you have any suggestions/sources for getting started with VS.NET?

I am finding the docs to be very confusing. Can't seen to find an example or step-by-step guide to design a basic, simple, Web app that would do the following:

1. Display grid of records from SQL Server with a link on each row to display detailed record
2. Display detailed record for editing
3. Update SQL server

Also, is there a simple drag/drop technique for creating webform labels and controls from a dataset?
