>I think there will be charges for proprietary interfaces - ebusiness type solutions, but the MyServices thing just sounds like a silly idea from a bunch of geeks who have nothing better to do than stare at their cell phone all day to see whether they got a message...

I beg to differ.

>how much information do you really need at your fingertips to make your life better?

Good question. I suppose it all depends on what you're trying to do. When you're sitting at a bus stop, waiting for a bus, and its cold out (we just got a metric buttload of snow here), do you really need information? No. But, if you knew the anwers to questions in your head like "I wonder if my bus is running late... I wonder if they closed the buses down today... I wonder at what temperature fingers start to fall of the hand." I thought of all those things today. Then I started to think "I wonder if I really need to catch this bus because school may or may not be cancelled when I get there". With Web services, I should be able to find out.

Ok, maybe not the most convincing example for someone in Hawaii, but consider all the questions that run through your mind when buying diner.

"I wonder if I have any bread at home... I wonder if its still edible... I wonder if this is the best price for beef, and will it fit in my refridgartor... I wonder if my highschooler will be home for dinner... I wonder what other recipes exist for the dinner I plan on preparing and what ingredients are in those recipes..."

All good questions, just being able to get that information while standing in the meat section would defintly make the cook's job easier, and the vision of Web Services supplys the means to get those answers.

You're right in the fact that the businesses will pick up Web Services first and run with them, but I wouldn't discount the rest as silly, unless you got good reasons (I didn't see any in your post).
