Hi all,

Newbie to Linux and hope someone can help... 1st question is based on simple connection to internet, another (ask later) is help on setting up a DNS server.

I have a Cable modem coming into my home/office WITH STATIC IP Address.
I have a D-Link router (4 port)

Basic configuration for the router is to hold the static information of my cable router including STATIC IP, Subnet, Gateway, Primary DNS, Secondary DNS.
ROUTER IS CONFIGURED AS STATIC IPs, NOT DHCP (for other reasons)...

Ok, hook up and configure router with this information and I can hook up my Windows machines (NT/2000/Me) by setting. Each machine is set to
Ex: STATIC IP 100.100.100.??? where ??? is unique per machine hooking up
Gateway is 100.100.100.1 (default gateway to access the router)
Then primary and secondary DNS IPs. This all works perfect for all other machines.

So, Now, I have a new Red-hat Linux setup, nothing fancy, just basic configuration. I set the ethernet to STATIC IP 100.100.100.30 (ex: something not already in use), gateway, primary/secondary dns. I am not getting any connection to the router... can't even ping.

However, If I connect the network card directly to the cable modem, and set the IP information with the main STATIC IP, Gateway and DNS info, all goes through.

Any Ideas??? Appreciate the help.
