I gather the system uses DBF data. Because of this, VFP 7 components exposes as web services might be a better way to go. Alternatively, you could build a web service in VB .Net which uses ADO .Net and the VFP OLE-DB provider (I have been told that existing OLE-DB Providers can be used in ADO .Net). I don't know if a .Net managed provider could somehow link to VFP data.
If it is DBF data, I would probably lean toward using VFP components for that sort of thing. Regardless of which way you go, getting a handle on web services will be a big help in making the transition. And, you can leverage skills you already have.
