Not very far, but living cost here much lower than in US. A loaf of bread 0.20, a litre of milk - 0.30 (sterilized - 0.90). A rent may be about 15USD. But again, it's very depends on region.
>But how far does 300USD go in Russia compared to the US? In the US, you would literally STARVE on that salary considering even a loaf of bread costs roughly 1.29-3.99 a loaf (depending on type of bread and where you buy it). It can actually be more in specialty shops. What does a typical carton of milk cost there (or a typical weekly amount of milk)? 300USD would not even pay the rent! (Nor would it even come close in most places in the US).
