He had no business do anything!
I had a part time job during college, writing dBase (dBase II 2.41, dual floppy CP/M) apps for one of the departments on campus. One day I was having a problem and this professor had written a dBase book. So, I called him and he said he could look at it. I got my code together an walked across campus to his office. Once of the first things he saw in my code was something like:
m.zipcode = " "
@ 12, 12 get m.zipcode picture "99999"
He said "you can't do that. 9's are for numeric data only". I told him it worked and that it wasn't the problem. He turn on his PC, worked at the dot prompt, then turned around and said "Oh.. I guess you can do that". I picked up my program and walked out of his office without waiting for the answer I went to get.
