>That's for sure. I had a professor, who used the same book year after year...and would read directly from the textbook. You would sit in class with your yellow marker. He would say something like "Page 133, right hand column, second paragraph". He would then read the paragraph outloud and the students would highlight it, then write his comments in the margin of the book. A friend of mine was taking the class, the same class his brother had taken the year before. Guess what... same paragraphs were read.. same comments were made. My friend decided to show up only for tests.

His comment was that we needed it word for word because he'd said it about 30 times in class. When I asked for a show of hands who in the class got it correct, the only person who did, was his wife.

This guy has no business teaching! He is just a part of the system and does it have problems!

Now that is my concept of a teacher!

>He once told me, "You go to college for 4 or 5 years and then they stamp BS on your back and send out into the world." *g*

Then you get your MS and that gets stamped on your back. It stands for "Mess"! Lord knows what Phd stands for!

Craig;

A teacher I had in Speech class told us a great resource was the microfiche library maintained by the state of California. Every test ever given by UC Berkeley (and other “public” colleges) was in there from about 1893. The teacher explained how some teachers used the same test every year they taught. If for no other reason checking the kinds of tests given by a specific teacher seemed like a good idea.

We verified that some teachers did indeed give the same test year after year. They had a reputation of “being there” but not demanding. Most of us in my group were on the GI Bill and pissed off at such crap. We went to school to learn – even if it was night classes. One girl from “days” came to our English 1 C class and after a few meetings announced how terrible night classes were. She said with great indignation, “Why you actually expect us to work! On days, we party”! I cannot imagine what type of students was being turned out on “days”! On second thought, yes I can! I have interviewed and met many in real life – losers all too often. Time to party? Forget it! There is a time for everything.
